Megale Negro Amaro 2010
by Gianandrea Tinazzi

  • The stand-out wine of 60 exhibitors at a big Italian trade tasting, and endorsed by 30 Archangels during an online tasting with the winemaker.
  • Hand-picked, aged in pricey French oak barrels... it tastes and looks expensive. A wine that will deliver 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' when produced in front of friends at the dinner table!
  • Savvy customers using our unique MarketPlace bought most of this in advance and made a huge saving - be sure to review it if you'd like to see it as a permanent listing!

A beautifully balanced heavyweight red. Wish I'd bought more . Hope we get more from this winemaker. You can tell its good from the first sip.

What a difference a month makes! My review from then is reposted below with the parentheses showing what I think now.

Curiously the hit on the nose is mint! (that's gone, it's all bramble fruit & oaky vanilla now) As it warms up the earthy hedgerow fruits ease forward to hint at a deeply flavoured wine. (very deeply flavoured!)

The taste is very 'natural' with blackberries, liquorice and a hint of coffee at the finish (the liquorice dominates the finish now) & I can see this complimenting rustic stews & rich pasta dishes (it very much did!).

Although the tannins are already quite soft I think this will get better with more bottle time & Ill be keeping some of these aside to test the theory!

(Theory tested & proven! Warning, this is in now way a light wine, it's a big, dark, intensely flavoured wine, best with food & slightly overpowering on its own)

I look forward to trying more of the range, especially the primitivo if we can get them onto the site! (even more so now!)

Cheers!

Superb. A brambly, earthy fruit start; ends with a warming, dark, deep finish. This and the Bargondia are my favourite under £7 winners. Absolute bargain.
