Yann Claustre's Story

"My bosses Peter and Susan, who own Camplazens, describe me as 'Young, enthusiastic and full of ideas' - not a bad description!

It's a fantastic vineyard to work for, and I'm very proud to lead the team - alongside my wife Estelle, who runs the vineyard operations.

Peter and Susan, from northern England, have always had a passion for good food and wine. And  after bringing up their family in New Orleans, Louisiana for twenty years they decided to follow a life long dream of owning a vineyard, and the challenge of producing good quality wines - so moved to the Languedoc!

The Close Family adopted the name of the vineyard when they became the new owners, and although they are not entirely sure who first gave Camplazens its name, they have a good idea. The area around Narbonne was used by the Romans as a rest stop between campaigns on the main land and the sea. On La Clape, the local town, they made wine, set up camp, and generally just enjoyed themselves. So it is not too surprising that Camplazens literally means "Camp (of) Pleasure" and was first dubbed as such by the Romans.

Happy drinking - I hope you enjoy our Syrah."

This wine is superb, an absolute delight. Rich, Dark, Fruity and the lovely integrated oak is right up my street . Smooth as a babys bot. even at 15.5%, it goes down exceedingly well. This last 2 weeks I have had the the pleasure of your 2008 & 2010 Syrahs and a bottle of your 2007 Marselan (this one not from Naked Wines) they are all beautiful and very well crafted wines,
The last wine I had, that resembled your Camplazens Premium 2009, was a 1996 Cotes Catalanes VdP, Le XV du President, The 15 being the % Alcohol content, the winemaker an Ex Rugby player. I look forward to more of your wines in the future.
Naked Wines, you must add more Camplazens wines to the main stock list.

Very nice wine. punchy at 15.5% but tastes and smells fantastic with it. A few bottles of this made New Years Eve pass much quicker!
