Alfredo Meyer's Story

"Cavas del 23 is the dream of two Buenos Aires natives who fell in love with the peaceful province of Mendoza, its people, landscapes, and climate, and who have since joined other viticulturists in the province in the effort to have nature yield the best it has to offer.

The dream dates back to the 1980s, when I took the first fine Argentine wines to a fair in Germany and received glowing reviews. In those times, the refinement of Mendoza wines was still a utopian vision. However, we saw potential in the endeavor and took to the work in earnest.

In 2002 we purchased a 90-acre vineyard and settled in Mendoza. The final step was in 2005 the acquisition of a winery, a relic built in 1923 (commemorated in the name of our wines) whose original construction style we have preserved."

After a few short weeks I decided to try one of these, from the mixed Market Place carton. Overall I was very impressed.
Initially, I thought the flavour was very thin and mean and there was no bouquet. After being left overnight in the bottle, however the wine transformed and reformed itself, becoming fuller and broader and the oaked structure started to emerge, so that the wine could be described as,,,, " aggressive, yet ripe, almost overwhelming fruit, nicely balanced by a slight vegetal blackcurrent greeness and soft tannins, with a gentle sweet nose strting to unfold. "
I shall try to wait before attempting the second bottle of this the cabernet sauvignon and the youner malbecs and syrahs.

I am not getting the love from these, just doesn't float my boat. I was hoping for so much more at this price point

Not enough going on for my liking, seem young.... at 2007?

Wonderful and well worth the wait. Earthy, rich tone that does a tap dance around your tongue prior to disappearing to the nether regions with a lingering smoothness.
